A topic that I feel needs to be discussed more openly is dwarfism. Thankfully we live in a time with television shows like Little People, Big World, and 7 Little Johnstons but, that is still not enough.

I am a dwarf, aka a little person, and at 22 years old I stand at 3 feet 10 inches tall. When I go out into the world I always have to be aware of my surroundings. Many times I have experienced ridicule from others, constant stares, and even people taking photos of me. I believe that these things happen because people are not informed. Dwarfism is a disability that is not widely spoken about.

I think the topic of dwarfism needs to be introduced to people when they are young so that average height people can know how to appropriately treat little people. They need to learn to not stare and to not tease. They need to learn that little people are just like average height people but shorter. They need to know that little people are independent, unique, and beautiful.
